NEW YORK — It is countdown time to AHR 2014 in New York City, January 21-23! As the largest and most comprehensive HVACR exposition in the world, the AHR Expo attracts attendees from all facets of the industry, including contractors, engineers, dealers, distributors, wholesalers, builders, reps and many more industry professionals.
If you are at the show, make sure to swing by CONTRACTOR’s booth and say hi to Bob Mader, editor-in-chief, Candace Roulo, senior editor, and John Mesenbrink, editor-at-large.
And make sure to join CONTRACTOR’s AHR Tweetup on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at noon EST. We’ll be tweeting about what we thought was interesting at the show and we want to know what you saw and liked too. You also don’t want to miss The Mechanical Town Hall! Back by popular demand, the event will feature five of the best speakers in the industry — “Hot Rod” Rohr, John Barba, Dave Yates, Eric Aune and Brian Nelson. The Town Hall will start at noon on Tuesday, January 21 at the convention center in room Room 1E03.
This Q&A session will lend itself to audience participation as each speaker will lend their stories, experiences and expertise to the room. Topics covered will include: the selling of energy efficient products; renewable energy, including solar, geothermal, etc.; embracing news methods and technology such as tool, boiler controls, mobile contracting, pipe joining, etc.; selling and profitability in today's market; and social media.

Walking shoes a must
If you are attending AHR make sure to bring your walking shoes since more than 1,800 companies will be exhibiting at the show. This means that 387,000-sq.ft. of booth space has been reserved in the convention center. This exceeds the record-breaking exhibit space reserved for the 2008 AHR Expo in New York City by nearly 6%.
“The 2008 Show in New York set several Northeast records and an all-time AHR Expo attendance record, which was subsequently narrowly surpassed by the 2012 Show in Chicago,” stated Clay Stevens, president of International Exposition Company. AHR Expo is produced and managed by the International Exposition Company. “Based on the record amount of exhibit space already reserved, the attendee pre-registration numbers and the total hotel rooms booked, we could be on track for another record-breaking event.”
Stevens added that 2014 attendee pre-registration numbers and hotel room reservations are both running significantly ahead of the 2008 AHR Expo at the same point in time before the show. The 2008 AHR Expo attracted nearly 58,000 total visitors, including a record-breaking 39,000 attendees from more than 138 countries.
“With economic expectations steadily improving, exhibitors will be unveiling hundreds of new products and a variety of energy-efficient solutions that HVACR professionals can experience for the first time at the world’s largest HVACR exposition,” said Stevens.
Innovation Award Winners
During the AHR Expo the winners of the prestigious 2014 AHR Expo Innovation Awards will be honored at a special ceremony on Jan. 22. Encompassing a broad cross-section of the HVACR marketplace, the winning entries were selected in 10 categories and represent the most innovative new products displayed during the show.
A panel of judges made up of ASHRAE members evaluated the products submitted based on innovation, application, value to the user and market impact.
Plus, one of these 10 category winners will be selected as the winner of the 2014 AHR Expo Product of the Year Award. Winners will display placards at their booths during the show as well as etched crystal awards to be displayed at their companies’ headquarters.
