TASCO Plumbing & Mechanical: Focus on Efficiency, Reliability

Miami-based commercial contractor finds success with expansion fittings and kitting services from GF Building Flow Solutions.

MIAMI, FL — When it comes to plumbing, Carlos Pajon, Owner and Manager of TASCO Plumbing & Mechanical Corp. has seen it all. Starting in the plumbing and construction industry in his teen years, he quickly discovered his passion for the trade.

The more he learned, the more committed he became to finding ways to create the best, most reliable plumbing systems in every project. Then, in 1990, he was inspired to take his best practices and establish his own company, where he furthered his dedication to the craft.

Plumbing the Sunshine State

When homeowners think about water leaks, they usually picture an annoying drip coming from their sink faucet. But when professionals like Pajon think about these issues, they understand it can mean damages to properties worth millions of dollars—and damages to their professional reputations.

“Plumbing in Florida comes with its own set of challenges,” he explains. “Flooding and water leaks are persistent issues, and that's why we rely on systems that can stand up to these conditions.”

There’s no challenge that Pajon and TASCO aren’t willing to tackle. While heavy commercial work and multistory buildings are their specialty, they have also provided plumbing systems for various other applications, including hospitals, condominiums, and industrial projects.

Mitigating Risk

After experiencing many issues with dry fits and blowoffs using other pipe installation methods, Pajon searched for a more reliable solution. With his intense passion and care for his craft, he dug into researching alternatives and came across F1960 expansion fittings and PEX-a pipe. He quickly realized these products would help mitigate the risk of water leaks.

Since PEX-a uses one simple handheld tool to expand the pipe and an expansion ring before inserting a fitting, it is impossible to dry-fit. And since there’s no need for other tools, materials, or heat to make the connection, installers can easily increase productivity without sacrificing quality and reliability.

Pajon was first introduced to PEX-a pipe in 2008 and has come to understand the importance of a manufacturer’s internal and external quality testing and the value of the warranty when using the pipe, expansion rings, and fittings together as a system.

“If you want to have a good name in this industry, you have to rely on a good product that’s going to stand the test of time,” he states.

On one of TASCO’s recent projects, the general contractor was very concerned with the possibility of major water damage due to blowoffs. Pajon and his team explained the ways PEX-a expansion fittings reduce this risk. After the project was complete, TASCO and the general contractor were incredibly happy with the results.

Kitting to Manage Chaos

In addition to large projects, TASCO also has other jobs of various sizes happening at the same time. To ensure quality, coordination, organization, and efficiencies on every development, they are now incorporating kitting services (from PEX-a manufacturer Uponor) to bring additional structure to their timelines while saving their project managers significant time and energy.

“Kitting creates the ability to do more important things,” Pajon remarks. “I’m able to hire Uponor to do part of this project for me, while we get the takeoffs done. Then the necessary products are packaged nicely in a box, labeled for each unit. All my warehouse staff needs to do is deliver them to the project, hand them to the installers, who go right to work. It creates less confusion and chaos in the project.”

Wynwood Diamedix

One recent job that benefitted from kitting was Wynwood Diamedix in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. The two-tower project included 304 residential units, incredible amenities, over 17,000 square feet of commercial space, and 63,000 square feet of office space.

When Pajon successfully bid for the project, he knew he wanted PEX-a pipe along with a Logic design incorporating multiport tees to ensure efficient water delivery to every unit. Since the residences included studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom floorplans ranging in size from 550 square feet to more than 1,400 square feet, the installers knew kitting would help simplify their jobs by providing clear plans and neatly packaged fittings, rings, multiports, and accessories for each individual unit.

Pajon remains confident that providing quality PEX-a products backed by a solid 25-year warranty, design support, and value-added services is the best choice for his business. He is looking forward to future opportunities to level up the construction industry in the South Florida area.
