Rinnai America Corporation Applauds DOE’s Rule on Efficiency Standards for Water Heaters
PEACHTREE, GA — On May 3 Rinnai America Corporation, manufacturer of the number one selling brand of tankless water heaters in North America, released the following statement:
Rinnia America applauds the US Department of Energy (DOE) for carefully considering proposed efficiency standards on water heaters and preserving the ability of US consumers to continue to choose from all types of tankless water heaters. The rule, as it was originally proposed in 2023 and published April 30, 2024, would have limited consumer access to certain tankless water heater products, disproportionately impacting middle-income households and small businesses. Rinnai also applauds the Georgia Congressional Delegation, our employees who wrote to DOE, and the many other stakeholders who helped Rinnai communicate our views respectfully to DOE in a manner that achieved a balanced result.
There are currently both non-condensing and condensing tankless water heaters offered in the US market. While condensing tankless water heaters are the most efficient tankless solution with Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) of up to .98 in products—such as Rinnai’s new Sensei RX—non-condensing still plays a critical role in the category as it offers homeowners and businesses an affordable solution with UEF up to .82, which is significantly more efficient than many standard gas tank water heaters.
“Rinnai’s brand promise is ‘Creating a healthier way of living®’, and that very much applies to the environment in which we live and work,” said Frank Windsor, President of Rinnai America Corporation. “We believe that the Department of Energy’s final rule will enhance energy efficiency, while still maintaining market equity and consumer choice. Our organization is committed to partnering with the DOE to meet energy savings goals in the United States, and we firmly believe tankless water heaters are a vital part of the solution.”
Rinnai America Corporation employs over 600 people across the United States at its headquarters, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers. In the last five years, Rinnai has invested more than $100 million as part of its commitment to developing a strong domestic manufacturing base to serve the North American market.
