Holliston, Mass.— Two area families are having a warmer winter, thanks to a partnership between Rodenhiser Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning here and the South Middlesex Opportunity Council, a local antipoverty agency.
Rodenhiser installed a $5,000 heating system for an Uxbridge, Mass., family headed by a woman suffering from cancer. Additionally, Rodenhiser’s employees donated toys, two scooters, clothing, a turkey dinner and $450 to a Marlborough, Mass., family under the city’s 2000 Holiday Helper Program.
“We asked SMOC to find two families each headed by a single mom who’s struggling financially, and they found two very deserving candidates,” said President Andy Rodenhiser. “Our employees felt very good about being able to help them.”
Installing a furnace for a family facing a cold winter shows leadership, said Bill Minkle, SMOC’s director of energy and financial assistance programs. “It really stretches the dollar. We’re extremely grateful to Rodenhiser Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning as it would have been impossible for us to raise all the funds needed for the furnace.”
SMOC is a nonprofit anti-poverty organization that provides a wide range of services to the community, including energy assistance, child care, meals and shelters.
When Rodenhiser receives partial reimbursement for the furnace from a federal energy-assistance program, it will donate the entire amount to fund scholarships for youths attending accredited hvac schools, Andy Rodenhiser said. Cincinnati-based Excellence Alliance Foundation will administer the scholarship program.
“Andy Rodenhiser has been a very strong supporter of us, and the way his company arranged for the donation is a win for everyone,” said the foundation’s director, Vicki Yorio.
Excellence Alliance also named Rodenhiser as its Residential Contractor of the Year, Northeast Region. Rodenhiser was recognized for its excellence in business practices and customer service. The firm received the award at the Excellence Alliance’s 2000 executive meeting.
