LANHAM, MD -- The 13th Annual Heat's On - Water's Off event is marked to take place on Saturday, September 24th from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm. The Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington, Plumbers Local 5, Steamfitters Local 602 and other volunteers in the area will gather to inspect and make needed minor repairs to 20 selected homes in the Prince George's County Community.
The Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington is an organization of union mechanical construction and service industry workers who do maintenance in plumbing, heating and air conditioning. They are organizing over one hundred and twenty-five volunteers to come and help fix homes that were pre-selected by the Prince George's Department of Family Services, Area Agency on Aging. Twenty homes are scheduled for repairing.
Beginning at 6:00 am volunteers will meet at UAM Mechanical Trades School on 8509 Ardwick-Ardmore Road, in Landover, Md., to be assigned the home they will repair. They will be volunteering their day replacing and repairing things such as faucets, toilets and other plumbing and heating systems. Suppliers include Furgenson Enterprise, Inc., Aireco Supply, Inc., Kingswell, Inc., and Washington Winnelson Co. The Prince George's Fire Department will be inspecting and installing a smoke alarm in the Media home.
Steve Mack, Chairman of MCAMW's Service Bureau comments, "Every year at least one life is saved because of Heat's On - Water's Off." Hazardous situations such as damaged plumbing and heating systems are often found during inspections. There will also be guest appearances from Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr. and Prince George's Executive Rushern L. Baker III. The day of Heat's On - Water's Off will prepare the residents for the upcoming winter months. This even is a special way for one community to give back to another.
