HOUSTON – The Way Companies and the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) celebrated their successful partnership with a $27,000 rebate check, an Energy Star certification and plaque presentation, and a green energy lesson for a troop of Girl Scout Cadettes (6th graders). GSSJC partnered with Way amid concerns about high utility bills, inefficient lighting systems and antiquated mechanical equipment. Way provided GSSJC with a program that allows the council to pay for the infrastructure upgrades through guaranteed energy savings.
“The energy efficiency upgrade that Way Companies facilitated has generated a substantial operational savings for our Council,” said Jon Maxwell, administrative services director for the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council. “As part of Way Companies’ ongoing partnership with us, it will facilitate activities directed at teaching our members how to use resources wisely, including an energy audit on our Houston Girl Scout Center that will highlight the upgrades that were completed on the facility and the impact it will have on our environment.”
GSSJC is proud to announce it is now Energy Star certified, exemplifying the importance of energy efficiency and environmental impact, setting an example for the 100 other councils around the country. According to the Energy Star Certification database, GSSJC is the only Girl Scout Council to have received this recognition.
Larry Jones, General Manager for the Way Companies, explained, “We are thrilled to partner with such an influential and honorable non-profit that doesn’t just ‘talk- the-talk.’ We thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to give back and educate a troop of 6th graders about the importance of energy efficiency.”
An annual savings of $174,000 are projected.
