BALTIMORE — BGE HOME, a member company of Constellation Energy Group, will close its eight retail appliance stores by the end of 2002 and focus on selling and servicing HVAC equipment, and plumbing and electrical systems.

“In the current retail environment, it has become clear to us that a local appliance retailer cannot successfully compete with the national chains,” said Bill Munn, president of BGE HOME. “By closing these stores we will be able to focus our energies on our successful HVAC, plumbing, appliance and electrical service business along with our home-comfort and home-improvement installation business. We will be making additional investments in these business lines.”

The company has “hundreds” of in-house service technicians, which it dispatches from a central location, according to a BGE HOME spokesperson.

The firm will focus on the residential sales and service of energy-related products such as heating and air conditioning equipment, plumbing and water heaters and electrical systems along with the servicing of appliances.
