ONTARIO, CA — IAPMO R&T, a leading developer of standards for the plumbing, mechanical and solar industries, is pleased to announce that new standard IAPMO/ANSI S1001.4, Energy Production Rating of Solar Heating Collectors, has been designated an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
IAPMO’s S1001 Solar Standards Technical Subcommittee members met in a collaborative and open process to develop a solar heating collector rating standard that is completely transparent and available at no charge to interested parties. A calculator, which automatically duplicates the calculations set forth in the standard, is also available at no charge.
The purpose of this standard is to specify a comprehensive calculation procedure to evaluate the daily energy production of individual collectors under a specific set of climatic conditions, using new or existing laboratory test results conducted according to established collector test procedures. This allows incentive program administrators and code authorities to specify an ANSI standard to set minimum solar collector performance levels, and allows end-users to compare the performance of various collectors under a range of operating conditions. This standard forms the basis for fair competition in collector rating services.
