Bosch geothermal on display as part of energy-efficient package at Sage at Maple Lawn
LONDONDERRY, NH. — Bosch Thermotechnology Corp., in cooperation with Bozzuto Homes, recently showcased its complete package of energy-efficient solutions at Bozzuto’s newly introduced Sage at Maple Lawn residential community. A geothermal loop that heats and cools using the earth’s own energy as well as tankless water heaters that use up to 50 percent less energy than standard home water heating systems make Buzzoto Homes’ Sage at Maple Lawn among the most energy efficient communities in the Mid-Atlantic United States.
Buzzuto equipped each of its homes in this community with Bosch geothermal heat pumps and offers a suite of innovative products from other Bosch divisions.
Bozzuto Homes’ Sage at Maple Lawn, a community of 200 to 300 planned homes located in Fulton, Maryland, exhibits many of the latest features in energy-efficient residential technology. Each home is Energy Star Certified, National Green Building Standard Silver Certified and has a Home Energy Rating System Index (HERS) score of as low as 21 on a scale of 100 from the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), indicating a high-level of energy efficiency.
“More and more, we’re seeing builders and consumers demand new homes with energy-efficient solutions, such as geothermal and tankless water heating technologies,” said Vitor Gregorio, regional president, North America, Bosch Thermotechnology Corp. “These green technologies not only save the homeowner money over the long run, but also reduce the environmental footprint of newly constructed homes. Bozzuto is the first production builder in the Mid-Atlantic to offer a high-efficiency geothermal heating and cooling system as part of its standard package, setting a new benchmark for what we believe will be the next evolution in new home construction.”
“With Sage at Maple Lawn, we’ve created a beautiful, functional community that approaches net-zero energy consumption,” said Tom Baum, president, Bozzuto Homes, Inc. “We chose Bosch for our supplier relationship in this community because its integrated solutions approach offered us the best available technology: geothermal systems and tankless water heaters, along with other appliances and add-on options. Equipped with these energy-efficient systems, we’ve made a major stride toward energy responsibility in homebuilding.”
Each home within the Sage at Maple Lawn community comes standard with the Bosch SM Model Geothermal Heat Pump. The Greensource CDi Series SM Model geothermal heat pump comes equipped with Bosch’s commitment to Creative Design and Innovation. The SM Model is the company’s most efficient unit with quality that only Bosch can provide, including:
• Low operating costs, saving up to 70 percent on utility bills over conventional HVAC systems.
• Quiet operation with sound levels as low as 52 dB.
• Improved indoor air quality and control.
• 10 year limited parts and labor warranty (see www.boschheatingandcooling.com for complete warranty details).
In addition, homeowners purchasing geothermal technology may be able to take advantage of rebates and credits offered by state and federal governments. For example, through December 31, 2016, homeowners who install Energy Star certified geothermal heat pumps are eligible for a 30 percent Federal tax credit. In Maryland, where Sage at Maple Lawn is located, homeowners are eligible for a $3,000 rebate from the State on a 1-to-10-ton capacity geothermal heating and cooling system.
Another feature homeowners may find attractive is a way to avoid up-front installation costs that have long been a barrier to entry for many residential geothermal installations. At Sage at Maple Lawn, Bozzuto’s customers have the benefit of deferring associated upfront costs through geothermal utility provider Orca Energy.
Orca provides the homeowner with the exterior portion of a geothermal heating and cooling system, mitigating the infrastructure costs commonly associated with installing exterior ground loop heat exchangers. Orca then serves as a utility provider, charging the homeowner with a one-time connection fee along with a monthly utility charge, often at greatly reduced rates from traditional HVAC system utility costs.
Bosch Greentherm 950ES Natural Gas Condensing Tankless Water Heaters are also a feature of the homes. The Bosch Greentherm C 950 ES Condensing tankless water heater is a top performance, fully condensing, gas, tankless water heater designed for residential applications. This Energy Star-approved tankless water heater can produce enough hot water for two major applications in most homes. Its features include:
• 15-year limited warranty on heater exchanger; five-year limited warranty on other parts.
• Approved for one half-inch gas line for ease of installation and retrofit.
• Benchmark temperature stability achieved with an active bypass.
Plus, each home within Sage at Maple Lawn comes equipped to accommodate solar panels, and homeowners also have the option of adding both vehicle and electric bicycle charging stations from Bosch.
Other energy-efficient options include a kitchen upgrade featuring Thermador and Gagganau Appliances. Bozzuto offers all Sage at Maple Lawn homes with an optional upgrade to Thermador or Gagganau appliances, supporting Bozzuto Homes’ vision for sustainable homes with cutting-edge technology by incorporating a sleek, streamlined look designed for modern luxury. For improved efficiency and sustainability, Thermador offers maximum points toward LEED certification.
Bosch and ORCA have cooperated in similar energy efficient projects in Richland, Wash., (Badger Mountain), Serenbe community (south of Atlanta) and other developments.
