WASHINGTON, DC — The International Code Council’s Building Safety Month campaign continues into week four with an emphasis on encouraging people to use their voice to promote building safety in their communities. By speaking up about building safety and ensuring the safety of the places they work, play and live, people are also maintaining the safety of their friends, family and neighbors. Tools promoted this week include templates of a press release and a letter to the media to edit and share, as well as fun resources to get kids excited about building safety.
Week Four: Engaging Your Community, provides tips and tools to engage and advocate for building safety. This week focuses on how your voice can be heard within your community through attending city council meetings, sending press releases and more.
“We really want to remind people that all forms of advocacy matter and make a difference in building safety,” said President the Code Council Board of Directors Stuart Tom, CBO. “Whether it be contacting local media or advocating for building safety to local leadership, even the smallest of actions have the power to save lives.”
The inaugural recognition of International Building Safety Day is also occurring during Week four of Building Safety Month. On May 22, governments and organizations around the world will recognize this single day dedicated to building safety and the professionals that enable the construction of safe, sustainable and resilient buildings. Look for the Code Council’s social media posts on May 22 recognizing this day, follow others posting with #IBSD2024 and check out the web page at www.buildingsafetyday.org to show support or submit a case study.
