FALLS CHURCH, VA. — Thirty plumbing and HVAC subcontractor foremen, superintendents and operations managers packed the sold-out workshop “Creating Super Foremen!” held May 8 and 9th at the Viega Educational Facility in Nashua, N.H. This training offered by the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors — National Association’s (PHCC) Educational Foundation squeezes dozens of lessons on how foremen must serve as the first line of management into a two-day workshop.

“There are five things that you must do every day if you are going to be a foreman,” said Kirk Alter, the workshop instructor and professor at Purdue University. “If you are not willing to do the planning and thinking these things require, I’ll happily send you back to work as a mechanic, but you will not be a foreman in my company.” The five items are revealed to the attendees over the course of the program, along with the reasons behind these requirements.

“The career advancement element of workforce development often gets lost in the industry’s focus on finding new skilled workers,” said Roger Peugeot, Chairperson of the PHCC Educational Foundation. “Not only do we need many more new workers to join our industry, we need to train the ones we have to open a path for advancement. That is a key for companies to keep the talent they have worked so hard to recruit.”

Viega, LLC. sponsored and hosted the training at their Educational Facility located in Nashua, N.H. “This is the third year we have held training at the center,” said Peugeot. “Viega’s support and the excellent staff at the facility are huge contributors to the success of this workshop and the others we’ve held here.”
