Meriden, Conn. — Tucker Mechanical, a unit of EMCOR Group Inc., announced that it will provide extensive mechanical services required for a portion of the “North Addition” of the St. Vincent Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn.

Tucker Mechanical will install the mechanical systems associated with 115,000-sq.ft. of new space and 58,000-sq.ft. of renovated space on the second floor of the medical facility North Addition. The project includes expansion of the Emergency Department; construction of an addition that will house the new cancer center with medical oncology infusion services, radiation therapy, and an additional linear accelerator and fixed PET-CT scanner; reorganization of outpatient services; an ambulatory procedure area that will house surgery and other procedure rooms; and a new cardiovascular center.

Tucker's scope of work will include demolition of existing mechanical systems and installation of new air handling units, cooling tower, chiller and associated piping, insulation, and sheet metal, as well as new plumbing for the facility that includes fixtures and equipment, sanitary waste and vent, domestic water, and medical gas piping systems.

Tucker Mechanical will also be responsible for the fire protection work for the new space, consisting of a complete combination standpipe system throughout the new building involving 26 fire hose valves and 1,370 sprinklers. Tucker will also install new wet systems on all floors, a dry system to protect the ambulance drop off canopy, as well as dry sprinklers servicing the outside windows to prevent the spread of fire. The entire second floor will be renovated and will include demolition of the existing sprinkler system and reinstallation of new systems throughout.

“The healthcare segment of our economy is growing and requiring increasingly larger and more complex — and improved — facilities, such as the expansion at St. Vincent's,” stated Bob Turner, CEO and president of Tucker Mechanical. “It's a pleasure to work with such a state-of-the-art facility and provide it with the high level of critical and comprehensive medical services that are needed as it grows to serve the needs of the community. It's gratifying to have been selected for such an important project, and to know that the work we'll do will make an important and positive difference in the lives of thousands of people in the years to come.”
