ONTARIO, CA -- The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), in recognition of their contributions to all of The IAPMO Group and their commitment to  addressing the continual growth of projects and products IAPMO continues to experience, has promoted Pete DeMarco to senior director of Special Services, Lynne Simnick to senior director of Code Development, and Dave Viola to senior director of Technical Services, IAPMO CEO GP Russ Chaney announced.

“All three of these individuals have earned senior status within the association and I am extremely proud to give
them this well deserved recognition,” Chaney said.

DeMarco oversees IAPMO’s water efficiency and green building initiatives, standards development activities, domestic and international plumbing code development, and development of research projects relating to water efficiency. Prior to joining IAPMO in 2007, DeMarco spent 32 years in American Standard’s Kitchen and Bath division. DeMarco co‐chaired the Steering Committee for Water Efficient Products, fostering the development of the U.S. EPA’s WaterSense labeling program, and serves as technical chair of the Plumbing Efficiency Research Coalition (PERC), which is researching plumbing system efficacy in light of emerging trends toward lower water consuming plumbing fixtures and appliances.

Simnick directs the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited development process for IAPMO’s four flagship codes — the Uniform Plumbing Code® (UPC), Uniform Mechanical Code® (UMC), Uniform Solar Energy Code (USEC) and Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tube Code® (USPSHTC) — as well as participates in the development of specialty codes and documents. Under Simnick’s leadership, IAPMO became one of only six organizations worldwide to earn Audited Designator Status, enabling designation of the Uniform Codes as American National Standards without requiring prior approval by the ANSI Board of Standards Review. Prior to joining IAPMO in 2005, the 32‐year plumbing industry veteran and licensed journeyman plumber served on the code development staff of the International Code Council.

Viola oversees divergent areas of The IAPMO Group, including strategy, industry outreach, training and education, international and custom code development, promotion of IAPMO programs and services, and IAPMO’s Green Building and Sustainable Construction codes initiative. Prior to joining IAPMO in 2007, Viola served as technical director with the Plumbing Manufacturers Institute (now International) for 8 years, where he was responsible for all code, standard and training initiatives. Viola has 22 years experience in developing plumbing codes, product standards, training and education, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Water Efficiency and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Board on Standardization and Testing.
