Triangle Tube: contractor-driven, contractor-focused

Blackwood, N.J. — For more than 65 years, Triangle Tube has provided innovative ideas to the North American heating and hot water industry. Blackwood, N.J. — For more than 65 years, Triangle Tube has provided innovative ideas to the North American heating and hot water industry. Located in Blackwood, N.J., Triangle Tube opened its doors in 1946 as a supplier of tankless coils to U.S. boiler manufacturers. The company expanded its product offering to include drainback tanks in the 1970s in response to the first wave of solar equipment in the United States and Canada.

In 1983, Triangle Tube eventually started a cooperation with ACV Intl., a Belgium-based manufacturer of a uniquely designed stainless steel “tank-in-tank” indirect fired water heater. That product, the Smart Series indirect, is still successfully sold today. The most important characteristic of the tank-in-tank system is its capability for auto-descaling and its long life expectancy, combined with the reduced requirement for regular maintenance.

In 1989, ACV Intl. bought Triangle Tube outright. As ACV’s North American subsidiary, Triangle Tube has introduced a series of innovative, highly efficient, stainless steel heating products over the years and is now among the industry leaders in the production of gas-fired condensing wall boilers.

“Looking forward into 2013 and beyond, we are optimistic that condensing boilers will continue to increase their share in the residential and commercial gas fired boiler market,” said Doug Dodds, vice president of sales, Triangle Tube.

Forte in training

An underlying theme extracted from the AHR Show in Dallas was the importance of contractor training, especially in conjunction with new product rollouts. Training will continue to be the cornerstone of the evolution of today’s contractor and Triangle Tube is certainly on the forefront of fortifying contractors with the tools they need to perform their jobs better.

“We are 110% committed to training,” said Dodds. Triangle Tube currently has four fully functioning training facilities in North America — Blackwood, N.J., Denver, Toronto, Vancouver and British Columbia — all fully equipped with operating boilers.

“We run classes every month in all four facilities and offer a state-of-the-art training experience in installation, trouble shooting, service and sales of condensing boilers and water heaters,” continued Dodd.

All facilities feature hands-on training with operating boilers covering proper installation practices, system and pump sizing, and troubleshooting. After successfully completing the two-day course, all participants receive a significant discount on five- and 10-year parts and labor warranties for every Prestige boiler they install.

Triangle Tube has the unique opportunity — through its four training facilities — to solicit, encourage and incorporate contractor input into all our products and services.

“The lifeline of our business is the contractor,” said Dodd. “We recognize the importance of listening to the trade and acting on their input; their input helps us to provide better products and better service. Our wholesale distribution network has played a vital role in our success and I believe them to be true partners in the industry.”

Inside the products

Triangle Tube’s unique design and materials results in products that provide outstanding quality, reliability and overall satisfaction.

“We were the first to introduce the stainless steel fire tube design to the residential condensing boiler market and continue to innovate with the only fully condensing combi boiler — the Challenger — on the market,” said Dodds.

The Challenger combination boilers are designed to fit the needs of today’s energy efficient homes with inputs of 85, 105, and 125 MBH. The Challenger is not only energy efficient with an AFUE of 93.5%, but space efficient as well. As a combination boiler, the Challenger eliminates the need for a separate domestic hot water tank. The unique heat exchanger in the Challenger heats domestic hot water directly, allowing the boiler to condense in the DHW mode and eliminating a separate heat exchanger and three-way valve.

The Prestige Cascade system can combine two to five Prestige 399 boilers for outputs from 112 to 1995 MBH, or two Prestige 250 boilers for outputs from 65 to 490 MBH. The boilers' integrated Cascade Control minimizes setup time. With a maximum turndown ratio of 18 to 1, the Cascade provides ample output during peak demands, yet adjusts its output during lower demands to minimize boiler cycling and maximize efficiency.

An ISO 9001 company since 2002, Triangle Tube continues to provide innovative, efficient and environmentally friendly stainless steel products. Today, Triangle Tube boasts a 100,000-sq.ft. manufacturing facility, and its Blackwood training facility is one of the most advanced, state-of-the-art training centers in the country. If 2013 continues to be a year with more emphasis for contractor training and efficient product offerings, Triangle Tube is well positioned — with its training facility and its line of innovative products — to be an industry leader in water heating manufacturing.
