CHICAGO — It’s that time of year when both people and the companies they work for think about giving back to their communities in ways large and small. Here are just a few stories we rounded up from plumbing contractors and manufacturers who are getting into the holiday spirit.

ARS Tin for 10

American Residential Services (ARS), a Memphis, Tenn.-based, privately-held national provider of air conditioning, heating and plumbing services, recently announced a community-driven campaign called “ARS Tin for 10” as part of their 10 year anniversary this year. Tin is an important element for soldering and bonding in the HVAC and plumbing business, and the “ARS Tin for 10” campaign intends to further bond ARS with the community.

As part of the campaign, ARS is distributing 10 promotional “tin cans” to local influencers, or those whom have been challenged. Collectors are tasked to have their can filled over the course of one month with monetary donations for “Night to Shine,” an event at Hope Church presented by the Tim Tebow Foundation. ARS has committed to donating an additional 10 times the amount raised. ARS will also activate employees during this time to participate in “Night to Shine” volunteer opportunities that will be available in February for the event.

The list of chosen challengers include Memphis personalities including anchor Kontji Anthony at WMC-TV NBS, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland, anchor Amy Speropoulos at Local Memphis Live, reporter Geoff Calkins at The Commercial Appeal, and award-winning Chef Kelly English.

“Night to Shine” is a prom night experience for people with special needs ages 14 and older. On February 10, 2017, churches from around the world will host “Night to Shine” for thousands of honored guests. Guests of Memphis’ “Night to Shine” enter the complimentary event at Hope Church at 850 Walnut Grove Road in Memphis, Tennessee, on a red carpet to a cheering crowd and friendly paparazzi. Once inside, guests receive the royal treatment including hair and makeup stations, shoe shining stations, corsages and boutonnieres, a karaoke room and dancing. The highlight of the night comes when every “Night to Shine” guest is crowned as a king or queen of the prom. To learn more, visit www.timtebowfoundation.org.

WaterFurnace and the USO

The United Service Organization (USO) of Indiana recently received a donation of $38,000 from WaterFurnace International, Inc., the leading manufacturer of geothermal and water source heat pumps.

This amount, raised by WaterFurnace and its suppliers, represents the largest single contribution to the nonprofit military support organization. Carl Huber, WaterFurnace vice president of corporate quality, presented the check during a Nov. 14 news conference at the company’s corporate headquarters in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was joined by members of the 122nd Air National Guard, WaterFurnace employees and dignitaries from the USO.

WaterFurnace raised the proceeds during its 28th Annual Supplier Golf Outing, held Sept. 7-8 at Brookwood Golf Club, Fort Wayne. In addition to fundraising activities on the course, the outing also included a silent auction for a variety of items donated by local businesses.

Triangle Tube is participating in the Toys For Tots drive.

According to the USO, most of WaterFurnace’s donation will help provide programs and resources to military personnel throughout the state of Indiana. WaterFurnace has raised nearly $225,000 for the USO of Indiana since 2008.

ACV Triangle Tube

ACV Triangle Tube, a manufacturer of condensing boilers and indirect-fired water heaters, has started taking donations to aid the South Jersey Food Bank, as well as Toys For Tots.

The Food Bank of South Jersey exists to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger by providing food to needy people, teaching them to eat nutritiously, and helping them to find sustainable ways to improve their lives.

The U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is directed by the Commander, Marine Forces Reserve, with the assistance of his staff, from the Marine Forces Reserve Headquarters in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The program organizes toy collection campaigns that begin in October and last until mid to late December. Members of the community drop new, unwrapped toys in collection boxes positioned in local businesses and coordinators pick up these toys and store them in central warehouses. At Christmas, coordinators, with the assistance of local social welfare agencies, church groups, and other local community agencies, distribute the toys to the less fortunate children of the community.

Grandma’s Pantry

J.C. Cannistraro (The PHCC’s 2016 Contractor of the Year) is a second-generation company founded in 1963, and one of the largest mechanical construction firms in the Boston area with 700 employees and annual revenues exceeding $200 million.

Known for their charity outreach extending from New England all the way to Haiti, Cannistraro got in the spirit of the season with their annual food drive drop off to Grandma’s Pantry.

The drive, done in association with Christ Church Waltham, helps benefit needy members of the community during the holidays. Grandma’s Pantry is a local business that sells gourmet dry food mixes, and promotes healthy eating through cooking education.
