WICHITA, KAN. – Viega has introduced the new MegaPress system for installing schedule 5 - schedule 40 black steel pipe and the MegaPressG system for installing schedule 40 black steel pipe in sizes from 1/2" to 2" using a unique press technology to secure pipe connections in less than seven seconds. The systems make water-tight and air-tight connections.
The Viega MegaPress and MegaPressG systems use modern cold press connections for pipe installation. The Viega MegaPress system is ideal for hydronic heat, chilled water, compressed air, non-medical gases, fire sprinkler systems, low pressure steam and vacuums. The Viega MegaPressG system is designed for use in fuel oil and natural gas applications.

“Viega already offers systems to press copper, stainless steel and PEX,” said Christoph Volkmer, associate product director at Viega. “This latest innovation in the Viega product line allows our customers to use pressing technology on black steel pipe as well, and the MegaPressG system is the only pressing system available for oil and gas applications.”
More than 200 fittings are available for both systems ranging in sizes from 1/2" to 2" that include elbows, couplings, reducers, tees, reducing tees, threaded adapters and unions. The systems use a stainless steel grip ring with an EPDM sealing element for the Viega MegaPress system, or HNBR for the Viega MegaPressG system, along with a carbon steel separator ring that ensures the sealing element and grip ring perform at maximum capacity.
Ideal for industrial, commercial and residential applications, the Viega MegaPress and MegaPressG systems are easy to use, flameless and environmentally friendly. The systems perform well in both new installations and retro fit projects. This new innovative additions to Viega’s product line leave no joining material build up, exposed threads or tarnish creating a clean, professional appearance.
The Viega MegaPress and MegaPressG systems use the same versatile pressing tools already used by many contractors and maintenance staff. The more compact pressing tools eliminate the need for expensive and cumbersome equipment.
The patented Smart Connect feature, available only from Viega, provides a quick and easy way for installers to identify connections that need pressing, so that they are not missed. Used in Europe since 2001 and introduced in the U.S. in 2005, the Smart Connect feature has assured hundreds of millions of leak-free connections.
Since the Viega MegaPress and MegaPressG systems are flameless, they are safer than traditional systems and eliminate the need for hot permits. The systems are clean, as they require no welding rods, smoke or cutting oils. The Viega MegaPress and MegaPressG systems can be installed under flow conditions, making them ideal for maintenance or emergency repair jobs, and reducing costly downtime by decreasing plant shutdowns. The press technology for both new systems maintain the structural integrity of the pipe unlike threading which can reduce pipe wall thickness by up to 60%.
Viega’s MegaPress system is ASME B31 compliant for pressure and boiler piping and the MegaPressG system is CSA LC4 compliant for fuel gas and oil applications. The systems exceed testing codes and standards in North America and are warranted against defects and workmanship.
