Washington — The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a resolution recognizing the plumbing industry and supporting the goals and ideals of National Plumbing Industry Week, which was celebrated April 27-May 3. The resolution is meant to recognize the 125th anniversary of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association and the role the plumbing industry plays in protecting the health and safety of the nation. PHCC, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, is the oldest trade association in the construction industry.

“This is a significant acknowledgment of our industry's contributions to society,” said PHCC President Jim Finley, of C.N. Finley, New Orleans. “We believe this gives National Plumbing Industry Week the recognition it deserves.”

The resolution was introduced by U.S. Reps. Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y., chairwoman of the House Small Business Committee, and Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, ranking member on the committee.

Velazquez and Chabot wanted to recognize the commitment of the plumbing industry, which is comprised of mostly small businesses.

PHCC kicked off National Plumbing Industry Week with a May 1 rally on Capitol Hill. The rally showcased the importance the plumbing industry plays in water conservation.

Ben Grumbles, Environmental Protection Agency assistant administrator, joined the rally on behalf of WaterSense, EPA's water efficiency program. Members of Congress also were invited to attend.
