The AFSA has announced the addition of two new components -- Lessons Two and Three -- to its updated Applied Sprinkler Technology training program.

DALLAS - The American Fire Sprinkler Association has announced the addition of two new components -- Lessons Two and Three -- to its updated Applied Sprinkler Technology training program, which is a new approach to AFSA design training containing updated elements from the correspondence version of Applied Sprinkler Technology. This new online approach to design training is reorganized and divided in such a way so that beginning or advanced layout technicians can effectively customize their design education based on their level of experience and knowledge.

AFSA: Applied Sprinkler Technology: Lesson 2

Designed for beginners in system layout, this second lesson in the series is geared towards those wanting to learn automatic fire sprinkler system layout in accordance with the 2007 edition of NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. This three-hour interactive online course covers topics such as overhead piping materials, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, copper tubing, PEX piping, and hangers and supports. Registrants will receive 3.0 CEUs upon completion. Registration is $125 for AFSA members with discount code ($155 for non-members).

AFSA: Applied Sprinkler Technology: Lesson 3

This is the third lesson in a series is designed for those beginning system designers wanting to learn automatic fire sprinkler system layout. Based around the 2007 edition of NFPA 13, this two-hour interactive course will cover topics such as wet pipe systems, antifreeze systems, dry pipe systems, preaction systems and deluge systems. Registrants will receive 2.0 CEUs upon completion. Registration is $95 for AFSA members with discount code ($125 for non-members).

The first lesson in the six-part Fundamental Block, AFSA: Applied Sprinkler Technology: Lesson 1, is already available online at AFSA's Fire Sprinkler eCampus. The remaining three lessons in the series -- four, five and six -- will be available in coming months. These include training on reading and preparing plans and specifications, obstructed and unobstructed construction, occupancies and hazard classifications, sprinkler spacing, location and position, piping and sprinkler layout, system configurations, material takeoff, sleeving, and drains.

Complementing the Fundamental Block is the second block in AFSA's comprehensive design training, which covers hydraulic calculations. Three of the four lessons in this block - Hydraulic Calculations, Parts 1, 2, and 3 -- are already available on the Fire Sprinkler eCampus.

The third and final block of the total program, which is still in development, will discuss more advanced subjects such as pumps, in-depth storage criteria, special systems (i.e., foam, flow control, water spray, special hazard, water mist, chemical, wet chemical), and alarm and detection.
