ONTARIO, CALIF. & CHICAGO — The Intl. Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to train, test, and certify qualified plumbing engineers and designers in the U.S. to perform green plumbing design work, to design systems that conserve and protect water supplies and reduce energy consumption in the delivery and use of water.
The organizations recognize unique characteristics in each association that make this agreement a viable and worthwhile endeavor.
According to the MoU:
-IAPMO will develop a green plumbing design curriculum based in part or whole upon current green plumbing and green plumbing inspector curriculum, with input and possible additional curriculum provided by ASPE.
-The Green Plumbing Design program will be tied to the current ASPE Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) program by requiring the CPD as one of the eligibility requirements for sitting for the Green Plumbing Design exam.
-IAPMO and ASPE agree to co-promote the Green Plumbing Design program, as well as the Green Plumbing Inspector and Green Plumbers Training programs.
-IAPMO and ASPE, through the use of the IAPMO Learn staff and industry subject matter experts, will coordinate the overall course development, hours of instruction, method of delivery, and cost of instruction and assessment of the Green Plumbing Design program.
