GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. — Mechanical contractor Andy J. Egan Co. (Egan) was named one of West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work for by the Michigan Business and Professionals Association and received one of only 10 elite awards.

Egan received the elite award in communications. The company has used new, innovative ways to communicate with customers and employees, including:

·        A social media presence on LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube
·        Launching an intranet for employees
·        Surveying customer and employees to evaluate and improve communication
·        Maintaining an open floor plan with all employees, including the president, using cubicles

Elite winners were announced May 6, 2010 at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville, Mich. during an awards luncheon.

The selection process for the West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work for starts with nominations.  Then, the company and its employees rate a variety of human resource-related initiatives across nine categories, including communication, community involvement, employee education and development, compensation and benefits, recognition and retention and more.  Scores are generated by an independent, third-party organization.  Elite winners are selected based on their overall high scores.
