CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Co. in December 2004 acquired Thompson Plastics, a privately owned manufacturer of CPVC-CTS pipe and fittings.

Founded in 1982, Thompson Plastics employs 120 people at its only location in Huntsville, Ala., providing customers with generic and FlowGuard Gold CPVC-CTS pipe and fittings for hot- and cold-water distribution. Thompson Plastics also manufactured BlazeMaster CPVC Fire Sprinkler Systems.

Charlotte Pipe will discontinue the Thompson Plastics brand, a company official told CONTRACTOR. He said that Charlotte Pipe would suspend production of Thompson’s generic CPVC-CTS pipe and fittings and BlazeMaster CPVC sprinkler pipe until it could study those markets further. The Huntsville plant will remain open under the Charlotte Pipe name.

“CPVC-CTS is a fast-growing product category, and we are delighted to be able to strengthen our position in that market with the acquisition of Thompson Plastics,” said Frank Dowd IV, chairman and CEO of Charlotte Pipe. “Thompson is a high-quality and innovative manufacturer, and we look forward to the growth opportunities that are available in the hot- and cold-water distribution market.”

Charlotte Pipe and Foundry offers a system of cast iron, PVC, CPVC, ABS and FlowGuard Gold pipe and fittings for residential and commercial plumbing and industrial applications.
