MADISON, WIS. — Ahern Fire Protection Vice President Ken Collins recently presented Madison Area Technical College student Julie Boland with a $650 scholarship toward her studies. At its annual Awards and Recognition Breakfast, MATC also recognized AFP for its ongoing support. AFP’s Madison office regularly lends its resources to MATC’s architectural technician program.

Ahern Fire Protection is a division of J. F. Ahern Co., a full-service mechanical and fire protection contractor based in Fond du Lac, Wis. J. F. Ahern Co. employs 850 people and reported sales of $123 million for fiscal year 2003.

“We have a strong relationship with MATC, both through annual scholarships and sponsoring such events as the awards breakfast,” Collins said. “We are always looking to recruit graduates from their Architectural Technician program, and we periodically give presentations to students on the fire protection industry and career opportunities for designers. MATC graduates typically have a solid knowledge of building construction, and we can tailor that knowledge toward fire protection.”
