HOUSTON — Mechanical contracting consolidator Comfort Systems USA Inc., announced in mid-April that Norman C. Chambers would resign his roles as president, chief operating officer, and director to accept a senior position in a different industry. Chambers planned to depart Comfort Systems on April 30.

“Norm Chambers brought excellent experience and leadership to Comfort Systems USA at a time when we were navigating some of the toughest conditions our industry has faced in the last 30 years,” said Bill Murdy, Comfort Systems’ chairman and CEO. “Norm made significant contributions both to our strategic direction as well as our operational execution. We thank him for his outstanding contributions, and wish him well as he takes on a leadership role in a company in the building products industry.”

The company announced that Murdy would assume the president and chief operating officer roles for the present.

Comfort Systems has 63 locations in 51 cities around the nation. Comfort Systems’ revenues peaked at around $1.5 billion in the late 1990s. In late 2002, the firm sold 18 operations to EMCOR. The company reported 2003 revenues of $784.98 million, down from $819.28 million in 2002.

Following Comfort Systems’ announcement, NCI Building Systems Inc., Houston, said it had hired Chambers as its president and chief operating officer. Chambers has been a director of NCI since June 2003.

NCI Building Systems is one of North America’s largest manufacturers of metal building products for the nonresidential building industry.
