  • The Mechanical Service Contractors of America has announced that W.E. Bowers, Inc., a full service mechanical construction, service and plumbing company located in Beltsville, MD, is the first MSCA STAR contractor to qualify for the organization's environmentally oriented GreenStar designation. The company earned this distinction by successfully demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship throughout their entire organization. W.E. Bowers has been a member of the USGBC since 2007.

  • Charlotte Pipe and Foundry hosted its first “College of Plumbing Knowledge” class for plumbing engineers on June 23-24. Held at Charlotte Pipe's new, 9,000 sq. ft. training facility in Charlotte, N.C., the class offered engineers a refresher course on the basics of designing plumbing and domestic water systems. The course was developed and taught by Ron George, CIPE, CPD, president of Ron George Design & Consulting Services, with assistance from Brian Connor and Charlotte Pipe's Technical Services Department.

  • Registration is now open for MasterClass Conference 2008: Industry Perspectives, which will be held October 1 and 2 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta in co-location with the Green + Design Conference and Exposition produced by Nielsen Business Media. The conference is hosted by the National Kitchen & Bath Association and offers attendees sessions and discussions with world-class industry professionals.   • The Plumbing Manufacturers Institute will host its 2008 Fall Meeting at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, Va., on October 5-8, with the theme of “Promoting a Healthy Balance.” The meeting will feature sessions on such topics as a green update and a special presentation focusing on the voice of the consumer.   • Clockwork Home Services (Clockwork) today announced franchise growth for the second quarter of 2008 within its portfolio of nationally branded home services companies. During the period from April through June, 2008, Clockwork added 21 new plumbing, air conditioning/heating and electrical franchises. Including these additions, the company now serves 555 territories with franchises in the plumbing, heating/air conditioning and electrical sectors.

  • Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. has announced that 19 member companies are participating in the construction of a Food Pantry in Hancock County, Miss. Destroyed by Katrina, the Food Pantry has been in temporary housing for the past three years and has been in need of a larger facility to help support the people who benefit from its services. Located near the Mississippi Child Development Center, the new, larger site for the Food Pantry will support an estimated 17,000 people in 2008.
