ELKHART, IN — NIBCO INC., of Goshen, IN, has once again been approved as a ‘STAR’ participant in the Indiana Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). This will be the fourth consecutive time the facility has been recognized as a STAR work site.

Approval into VPP status is OSHA's official recognition of the cooperative relationship between employers and employees to work toward heightened safety and awareness. Since 2002, NIBCO sites have aspired to VPP Star certification, which operates on the premise that OSHA enforcement alone cannot produce optimal safety. The Goshen site was the first NIBCO facility to accomplish this honor, and the 17th company in the state of Indiana to be recognized as a STAR site.

“We commend the NIBCO Goshen team for their exceptional achievement in safety excellence,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rex Martin. “We are proud to participate in the Voluntary Protection Program which recognizes the importance of workplace safety, and remain committed to continuously improving our associate’s remarkable focus on safety in the future.”

For the past three years, the Goshen facility had an average of 1.1 recordable occupational injury or illness incidents per 100 full-time workers at 83 percent below the industry average of 6.4. The Goshen site was the first to achieve this status in 2002; NIBCO currently has five sites with VPP STAR status.
