J. F. Ahern Co. recently received a William H. Feather Safety Award, a nationally recognized safety merit presented by the National Utility Contractors Association. This award is given to NUCA members with the best safety records in five categories of total man-hours worked. Ahern was chosen from more than 2,500 NUCA members, based on its 2008 injury frequency data and comprehensive safety program.

  • Comprehensive Energy Services formed an Engineered Systems business group, dedicated to installing, integrating and servicing fire alarm and life safety systems in new and existing facilities, to better serve client needs and meet market demand. This new business group is led by Doug Glenn, manager.

  • On June 19, The U.S. Green Building Council and U.S. Conference of Mayors urged Congress to commit additional research funding to evaluating the environmental, economic and health benefits of green schools, and endorsed the recent passage of the 21st Century Green High-Performing Public School Facilities Act. H.R. 2187 authorizes billions of dollars to support school repair, renovations and modernization projects in school districts nationwide.

  • The Visionaire in Manhattan's Battery Park City received LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, marking it as the “greenest“ condominium in the U.S. The structure captured all 10 of the energy LEED optimization credits available. The building features a high-efficiency air filtration system, a water treatment system that recycles water and provides make-up water for the cooling tower, a rooftop garden that harvests rainwater for irrigation, and photovoltaic solar panels.

  • Lenox recently announced the Cut promotion on Twitter and Facebook. The promotion automatically enters the company's Facebook fans and Twitter followers for the chance to win the grand prize of $500 in tools or a chance to win reciprocating blade kits, t-shirts or koozies. Contestants must become a friend or fan by June 30 to win. The contest is open to both existing and new fans and friends. Winners will be announced July 1, 2009.
