INDIANAPOLIS — E. W. “Bob” Boulware has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Rain Harvesting Alliance (www.irha-h2o.org) at its recent Annual Meeting. The International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA) was created in Geneva in November 2002 following recommendations formulated during the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg two months earlier. The mandate called for federation and unification of the disparate rainwater harvesting (RWH) movement around the world. Boulware will be working to develop and upgrade plumbing design standards for alternative water systems, to include rainwater catchment and graywater systems.

Boulware is president of Design-Aire Engineering Inc., Indianapolis, which specializes in energy efficient building mechanical and electrical systems design. DAE also provides engineering services for LEED certification and off grid system design, to include solar, rainwater harvesting and grey/black water systems design.

He was also national president of the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA) for two terms in 2009-2010/2011-2012. ARCSA (ARCSA.org) is an international organization that promotes rainwater catchment as an alternative water source. ARCSA members have assisted local communities such as Portland, Atlanta, Austin, Tucson and Seattle develop ground-breaking legislation allowing rainwater for the first time be an acceptable alternative source of water.

A long-time member of the International Association of Plumbing & Mechanical Officials Green Technical Committee, he is also the principle author of ARCSA/ASPE Standard 63: Rainwater Catchment Systems.
