Daikin supports Habitat for Humanity’s 31st Annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project

Former President Jimmy Carter and his wofe Rosalynn worked with 5,000 volunteers from around the world joined the Carters to help build or repair more than 100 homes in Dallas and Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Ninety years and still going strong. Say what you will about President Jimmy Carter’s presidency or political platform, but his dedication to human rights cannot be denied. And well into his golden years, he continues to inspire.

“One of the fundamental human rights is to have a decent place to live, and to have adequate food to eat, have some modicum of education and healthcare, and most people on the streets would say the right to vote and to have freedom of assembly and freedom of speech, but those freedoms don’t mean very much to someone sleeping under a bridge,” said Carter.

For 31 years, the Carters have partnered with Habitat for Humanity — through the Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter Work Project, which was held this past October — and have given a week of their time annually to help build homes and raise awareness of the importance of decent housing and its role in breaking the cycle of poverty. Hosted jointly by Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and Trinity Habitat for Humanity in Fort Worth, more than 5,000 volunteers from around the world joined the Carters to help build or repair more than 100 homes in Dallas and Fort Worth.

“We are honored the Carters have selected Dallas to co-host this ambitious event that engages the community in a partnership that is vital to priming our neighborhoods for sustainable revitalization,” said Bill Hall, CEO of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. “From the millions generated in tax dollars to higher graduation rates, we believe empowering families with opportunities for homeownership is better for everyone, and I challenge North Texas residents to get involved in the transformation of our cities.”

“One thing Habitat does better than any other organization I know is that it lets you connect with people who are different from you in a very humbling way, but also a gratifying and enjoyable way,” said former President Jimmy Carter.

To help bolster the cause, Daikin North America LLC is supporting Habitat for Humanity’s 31st annual Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter Work Project.

“We are proud to have the chance to work with Habitat for Humanity to provide sustainable housing,” said Gary Clark, SVP of Marketing at Daikin North America LLC. “We couldn’t be more excited to have a chance like we did in Dallas – Forth Worth to support Habitat through the donation of HVAC equipment, our employees volunteer time and the support of our independent network of Daikin Comfort Pro contractor.”

This year’s Carter Work Project also coincides with Habitat’s observance of World Habitat Day. Held on the first Monday of every October, the U.N.-designated World Habitat Day calls attention to the need for adequate housing for everyone by raising awareness and mobilizing people to take action in response to the need for better shelter around the world.

For three decades, Habitat’s Carter Work Project has engaged volunteers to improve communities across the United States and around the world. In Dallas, Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity will build 30 new homes and repair 20 existing homes in the East Oak Cliff neighborhood, located near the Veterans Affairs Hospital. In Fort Worth, Trinity Habitat will build 15 new homes in the Central Meadowbrook neighborhood, and will paint 50 existing homes in partnership with the City of Fort Worth’s “Cowtown Brush Up Program.”

In addition to supporting Habitat’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, Daikin has committed to providing $250,000 of support to Habitat builds across North America. This takes the form of direct financial support to Habitat for Humanity, as well as the donation of energy-efficient heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems for Habitat homes.

“Daikin is committed to supporting affordable housing and increasing the use of energy-efficient heating and cooling systems in the U.S. through this partnership with Habitat,” said Takeshi Ebisu, president & CEO of Daikin North America LLC and Goodman Global Group Inc. “On behalf of our employees, our independent network of local Daikin Comfort Pros and our suppliers, we are excited to be able to support such great work. I couldn’t think of a better way to demonstrate the commitment that we, as well as our dealers, have to serving the local communities across North America.”

“Our donations in Dallas – Fort Worth are part of our larger commitment to Habitat across the United States and Canada,” said Clark. “Over the course of the last year, we will have donated $250,000 in direct support or HVAC equipment to Habitat for Humanity. We are looking for ways to expand the program in the future to support the need for sustainable housing.”

With Daikin’s philanthropy, contracting companies from across the country are getting into the act. “Once Daikin said they were partners with Habitat for Humanity, we were anxious to get involved and contacted our local Habitat to start that relationship,” said Scott Clark, Marlin James Inc., an air conditioning, heating and electrical company located in Valrico, Fla.

“We are thankful to have the opportunity to participate and give back to the community,” added Scott Clark. “We are also involved in other types of community programs in which Daikin supports, and our entire company gets involved and donates their time and labor as well.”
