FALLS CHURCH, VA. – The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors - National Association Educational Foundation announces the return of its popular series of two-day regional instructor workshops.
Ideal for apprentice program, scholastic, post-secondary and in-house instructors, these three regional workshops offer innovative teaching techniques targeted to training the next generation of skilled workers for the plumbing and HVACR industries. Regional workshops in 2013 will be held on May 9-10 in Monterey, Calif.; May 16-17 in Valley Forge, Pa.; and June 20-21 in San Antonio, Texas.
“These workshops – one full-day that focuses on optimizing the use of technology in the classroom, followed by second-day sessions geared more toward emerging topics – always prove very worthy in giving these instructors the training they need to become more skilled and confident in the classroom setting," said Merry Beth Hall, the Foundation’s director of apprentice and journeyman training.
The first day of the workshops – presented by Dr. Katherine Manley from Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, Mich. – will introduce and explore basic practices and issues in using technology and computers in teaching. Dr. Manley – a much-requested PHCC presenter because of both her expertise in career and technical education methods and her quick wit – will draw on current research and best practices to show how to integrate multimedia and new technology into teaching apprentices and tradespersons.
On the second day of the workshops, Ron Shanaver of Milwaukee Electric Tool Co. will focus on the latest power tool innovations, as well as tool safety and proper use. Also that day, an experienced project manager from the Copper Development Association will take instructors through best practices for teaching soldering of lead-free products, especially crucial with the evolution of lead-free fittings complying with the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act.
These regional workshops are sponsored in part by BrassCraft, Copper Development Association and KOHLER. Registration is available on the PHCC website at http://www.phccweb.org/events.
