CINCINNATI, OH– TP Mechanical was recognized for its exemplary safety practices by a national organization of contractors with its highest awards for safety – Safety Employer of the Year – for the Ohio Valley Chapter.

Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) recognized TP Mechanical based on a rigorous criteria, including program improvement, management commitment, employee involvement, proactive measures, near miss reporting, lessons learned, OSHA training, new hire orientation and performance against key safety metrics. The organization also considers training that goes beyond industry standards and stands out among its peers.

The National ABC selection panel, which selected TP Mechanical as Safety Employer of the Year, said the company’s employee involvement and the commitment from upper management was an important factor in its decision.

“Safety first, always first, is our number one core value,” said Scott Teepe Sr., Chairman of TP Mechanical. “We go above and beyond to ensure a safe work environment for our employees and the contractors we share the job site with.”

In addition to the employer of the year award, TP Mechanical also earned First Place in its category – Level V, contractors with more than 500,000 annual work hours. And this is the 12th year in a row that TP Mechanical has earned a Platinum Safety certificate. The Platinum award indicates the contractor achieved an incident rate at least 25% below the Bureau of Labor Statistics average for the industry, as well as outperforming other industry standards.

Company president Bill Riddle and Teepe attended the event and accepted the awards at an awards program in January at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our commitment to safety, but we don’t do it for the awards. We’ve made safety a part of our culture because it’s the right thing to do – for our business, for our employees and for our customers,” Riddle said.

Safety is a critical part of the TP Mechanical training program, with every employee participating in regular programs. The contractor is also a part of OHSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). It has implemented meticulous safety and health management practices that address hazard prevention and control, worksite analysis, training, management commitment and worker involvement. As a mobile workforce participant in VPP, TP Mechanical voluntarily submits to rigorous evaluations to identify ways that to continue to improve systems.
